Go With Your Gut

Have you ever seen something that inspired you, but it was a little against the grain so you weren't sure whether or not you should run with it? That's what happened on our latest full remodel. In a world of the latest black and white exterior paint trend, I wanted something different, something that stood out, but also complemented it's surroundings and looked like it fit in. Not asking too much, right? ha. I looked long and hard and ended up with about 6 different paint colors on the house. I even got brave enough to ask for opinions on those said samples, over on our IG (seriously, this is only for the brave- I almost caved!). After losing sleep and researching countless additional options, we went with my original choice, Sherwin Williams Cocoa Berry and we were over the moon with the final outcome. I originally saw this paint color being used by Emily Henderson (@em_henderson) in a powder bath. Here is the inspiration picture from her blog. I love the way it is a neutral color, but in a bold way, brown with hints of pink.

BUT the application was going to be a big difference going from using it in a little to no light small interior bathroom like she did, to an east facing exterior for us! Well, I'm so glad I went with my gut and fully committed. Here is the final outcome of that house.

We've received so many compliments on the paint color. And guess what, the house most definitely stands out, but in a neutral, compliments it's surroundings, kind of way. I'm so proud that we can say I followed my gut!
